I spent the whole day kiting at the Torrey Pines Gliderport and learned some new ways to better handle the glider on the ground. Everyone else arrived that night and was chauffered around by me, as I was the lucky one who arrived first. I think I'll just hang out at and circle around the airport next time as I am very good at it now.

Late Afternoon Tow

Most of us kited at Torrey and waited in vain for the weather to improve during the morning and then were towed up for a sledder down to the beach. At least the view on Blacks Beach was interesting!

Late Afternoon Runs

More views of Torrey (notice the lack of paragliders in the sky). As usual, we picked the worst week in months to fly.

Views from the launch and landing zone at Marshall Peak, which is near San Bernardino (2 hours north of San Diego). The wind was really hauling, but the air was unbelievably boyuant; it was not difficult to stay up even out in the valley. The clouds were a new experience for me as they were getting dark pretty fast and most of us landed as it started to drizzle. Willie top-landed which was pretty impressive with the winds.

Unfortunately, we had plenty of time to play pool at the Mariott hotel bar as none of us were tired from flying.

We all decided to leave a day early as the weather was not looking very promising. Quote from airport personnel as Edward's gear is being torn apart: "Gee, this looks pretty. What are these strings and fabric for? Let's just see if there is anything buried in all of this material."
