Early and Late Afternoon Runs
After practicing our 4-wheeling skills, we found that the winds were coming out of the wrong direction at the top of Nordhoff's Ridge. Jump or drive, jump or drive?
After more 4-wheeling, we all took off of Chiefs Peak and had great flights in the 1/2 - 2 hour range. It was the first experience in thermal conditions for a few of us. Everyone except Ronnie landed at Upper Ojai and met up with Edward. We then drove over to the Nordhoff high school and watched Ronnie land next to the vehicles. Nice flight!
We drove up again to pick up the vehicle and to send Edward off at dusk. I tagged along after a couple of botched launches in no wind or a slight tailwind. It was a beautiful sled ride up there all alone with the sun setting.

Early and Late Afternoon Runs
We all took off from Chief's Peak again. After having my first collapse (Others had them, too), I looked around for a while for some lift but then headed off on a sled run for the high school track. I met up with Peter at "lower" Ojai in the orchard and hitchhiked to Boccali's. Edward, Luke, Ronnie and Randy did somewhat better and ended up closer to or at Nordhoff high school.
Edward, Luke and Peter decided to go for a flight at dusk. Again, the winds were turning catabatic. All of the launches were... interesting!

Early and Late Afternoon Runs
We headed over to the Santa Barbara, checked out some landing zones and then stopped at The Skyport for a minute to watch some launches
We drove up to La Cumbre Peak and launched from there. Steve and Edward each kissed a moving vehicle after launching but everything worked out fine.
After Louise picked everyone up we drove back up to The Skyport and launched form there. It was an uneventful sled run with the winds turning catabatic.
Most headed back to the airport for airline flights that night or the next morning.

No Runs
I drove all over the place trying to see if anyone might be flying, but only found a couple of packs of dolphins fighting off of Bates. There was no wind at Bates most of the day. And no one was flying off of The Skyport or parked at the Parma LZ. I then drove back to Bates and found that the winds were picking up, but by that point decided to relax at the beach and then head to the airport.
See everyone next time.
